What made you pursue a career as a photographer?
Photography has always been my path. It started as a hobby nearly 26 years ago. I got a part-time job with a wedding photographer. In 2006 I graduated from the photography program at Humber College.
What photography services do you provide?
We specialize in business portraits:
- Mobile studio
- On location
We also offer portrait videos where we create elegant movements allowing your portrait to come to life.
How do you advertise your services?
We do some social media but the majority of our business comes from word of mouth. Word of mouth is a lot more effective for us.
What is the one thing you wish you knew before starting your own small business?
I wish I had known about taxes, creating invoices. I went to college for photography but they never went over the legal or business aspect of photography.
Do you use the services of a professional accountant; bookkeeper or lawyer?
Yes to all three.
What is the hardest part of owning and running a business?
Knowing your customer. It takes a while to understand. That was the most channelling part.
To what do you attribute your success?
Been at the right place at the right time. A lot of hard work but a lot of luck as well.
What advice would you give someone looking to start a photography business
Extremely important to learn customer service. Learn about running a business. You don’t learn that at school and it is important.
